Linked: Ommwriter, The Most Beautiful Word Processor Ever

Ommwriter is the most beautiful word processor I have ever set my eyes on. Can’t wait for it to leave beta.

It looks like a complete waste of time to me.

I’ve got itunes playlists for my background music if I want it, and if I want “the close relationship between writer and paper”, I’ll stick with a white page and Courier, which OpenOffice provides so well, and which has been the landscape I’ve viewed while writing — whether novels, stories, or school papers — for the last 20 years.

Oh, but I do find it remarkably useful, Greg! I haven’t taken it out for a real spin, but it does seem like a prettier, better designed version of Writeroom, with just the right amount of clicky features. I loved Writeroom. I think I’m going to like this very much.

I have tried Writeroom, also, and was quite unhappy with it. I’ll agree that Ommwriter is pretty, but I have my own music and backgrounds I want to work within.

I use Pages in full screen mode. I’ve set up templates that use appropriate artwork and colour schemes to get me in the right mood, and I pick my music to match the type of scene I’m writing. Ommwriter might be pretty, but it would definitely be a step back.

Yeah, it’s pretty and all, because it’s for the Mac. Well those of us who don’t have the money to afford an Apple product have to make do. On my Ubuntu laptop I have a variety of choices: OpenOffice, AbiWord, gedit, and I found this program called PyRoom, which is — you got it — similar to Writeroom. Currently it only seems to be available for Linux, but they are working on a Windows version.

Glad I’m not the only one who wasn’t impressed.

I had no idea you could use Pages for artwork and colour schemes. Hrmm. Should give it a try, sometime.

Love Ommwriter and its awesome music. It’s the best emotive, delicate expressive soundtrack I’ve ever heard :)
